Smokey was also a hog in disguise.  He would always be ready to eat, whether it was his regular food (Iams Hairball Formula cat food), or a treat.  If I was working on the computer and Smokey wanted a treat, he would come over and 'fang' my foot (at home, I usually don't wear shoes inside the house) to let me know that he was down there and wanted a snack!

Ferrets have two canine fangs that protrude down from the upper jaw, outside their lower lip.  He would come over and put the tip of his little snout on my foot and press down gently until the fang poked my foot and let me know he was there!  He is the only ferret of my group that did that, so it made it easy to identify him without even looking!

Smokey also allowed himself to be held and cuddled.  He didn't particularly come up and ask for that treatment, but if I saw him and picked him up, he would lay there, peacefully, until I decided to put him back down.  Not many ferrets will tolerate that!  He was also very furry, so petting him was a pleasure.

Smokey was a very large ferret, as ferrets go.  He is even larger than Fuzzer, who is as big as some small dogs that I've seen!  One of the disadvantages of this, was that he couldn't go some of the places that my other ferrets can get to.  For instance, I have a play tube for the ferrets (it is actually a cardboard mailing tube that some posters came in) to play in.  The tube is inserted into the top of a plastic kid's castle and the castle is laid on its back on the floor.  This way, the ferrets can all run through the tube and pop out inside the castle--or the other way around, too!

Smokey just couldn't fit into the tube, no matter how much he wanted to.  So, his trick was to chase a ferret into the tube, then
