rush over to the castle end and jump in through the much-larger entrance and wait for the ferret to come out the other side!
Ziggy knew that it was a good place to get away from Smokey, too. Ziggy would go into the tube about halfway, then just sit there, while Smokey waited at the far end. Smokey would start tugging at the end of the tube, then would go outside the castle and jump on it in several places, trying to convince Ziggy to come out of there!
I also have two triangular mailing cartons that they ferrets play in. If Ziggy tried to escape into one of those, Smokey would actually tip them over and roll Ziggy around inside! Since he was the only ferret that couldn't get inside one of the tubes, none of the other ferrets bothered to learn this trick.
Being large also presented other challenges for Smokey. For instance, if I was sitting on the couch watching television, he had a very hard time climbing up to get my attention. The other ferrets can mostly just jump up on the couch. Occasionally, Fuzzer has a bit of a problem, but with sheer strength, he will eventually make it up there. Smokey wasn't quite as athletic as Fuzzer, though, and would have to really work at it to get up there!
Smokey also liked to follow me around from time to time. If all of the other ferrets were asleep during play time, he would seek me out and follow me around. I would roll him over and wrestle with him, or pet him, or pick him up and carry him around as I went about my business. He enjoyed the attention and I enjoyed the fact that I was worth his time!
He also liked to harass the cat at every opportunity. Fortunately
